This means that if the computer has a large number of soldiers or outnumbers you by two or three to one(which it frequently will during campaign missions), you won't be able to redirect soldiers on the move. You can turn the tables and use their tactics against them by by sending out a limited force of your own to draw the attention away from a village you want to really strike, but this also can lead to one of the largest problems with the controls – Once you send troops from one area to another, you can't control them until they reach their destination.

You can install as many soldiers as you want, and in fact, you'll frequently find that sending dozens, if not hundreds of troops to a structure or a turret is vital to protecting your lands, as the computer will attempt to exploit any weaknesses in your defense. Now, one of the largest facets of the game is clearly shifting troops from one structure to another to establish a front line of defense while trying to protect your weaker, less populated buildings from being taken over by your enemies. This allows you to brag about your success or help other people that are stumped on a stage. What's really cool about successfully completing each mission is that you'll receive one of nine reward badges that translate into your score for that stage, as well as the opportunity to save and upload a replay of your gameplay to YouTube. Every now and then, you may also find that you're tasked with accomplishing these goals within a specific time limit, which adds a little extra pressure. Armory buildings are the only ones that can't be upgraded, but they provide a different effect on your soldiers based on the number of armory buildings that you own, giving them everything from sticks to maces. Clearly, it's up to you to make the decision as to how many soldiers you want to send, but each structure that you're trying to capture has varying levels of resistance, regardless of whether they're a neutral structure or held by an enemy. Once the directional arrow is shown, you have the option to send a quarter, half, three quarters or all of the troops from one location to another by hitting one of the four face buttons.

This is done with a basic set of controls. To defeat them, you'll need to capture neutral villages to augment your forces armory points to improve your soldiers and defensive towers to fend off incoming attacks. There is no story or plot to focus on within Mushroom Wars instead, all you need to know is that you are the orange mushroom kingdom, and you'll face off against up to three rival kingdoms that want to conquer your lands.
